..an excursion of tales woven with wit and wisdom

When Tammy Hall volunteered to tell stories at Lefferts Homestead Historical House Museum for Children back in 1996 she never dreamed that she had started a brand-new life’s journey.  This former New York City teacher and advocate for literacy has been called ‘Storyteller Supreme’, ‘a Master’.  She has numerous performances to her credit and conducts storytelling and writing workshops throughout the Greater Metropolitan area. She seeks to share her gift of story with the world.

As an African-American and native of Clarksville, Tennessee, she draws from her black southern rural heritage to deliver an unforgettable tale.  Listening to wonderful stories at the foot of her first and most memorable storyteller, her father, had a profound effect on her life. Growing up she was taught to appreciate diversity among individuals and was encouraged to nurture the uniqueness within herself.  As an inner city school teacher she recognized the beauty and panoply of different and unique characters among her students oft inspiring new and interesting characters in her story writing and telling.

Curiosity of life and learning has led Ms. Hall to travel and study other cultures in Europe, the Caribbean, and Central America.  Her experiences abroad and the knowledge she has gathered from other peoples has greatly enhanced her storytelling.

Reading, storytelling, and music are a daily ritual in her home.  Ms. Hall believes storytelling to be an artistic, expressive way of bringing people together and guiding them on a journey of the world’s cultures, peoples, and landscapes through imagination.  She believes that “the ancient and proverbial wisdom contained in stories holds the answers to many of today’s problems.”
